Arizona Mills Mall

I went to Arizona Mills Mall for a couple of reasons last night. 1: The Ladies Footlocker was going out of business so I thought I could find some awesome deals there...2: I wanted to go to the Gap to find some new pants... and 3: I am extremely bored and want John to come back from his hunting trip. Anyway as I was walking around the mall I began to think about when I was younger and thought that the AZ Mills mall was the coolest mall I'd ever been to. lol I remember the Rain Forrest Cafe and how it was best restaurant that I ever went to as a kid. I went into some random store and was looking at some of their shirts and came across a shirt that said, "I Like My Boyfriend More". It made me laugh. I think that I'm too old to be shopping in these stores. I quickly left. Anyway...I ended up getting a pair of pants at the Gap, getting a pedicure, and then got waxed. Then I talked to my mom the whole drive back to our house. It was an interesting night.

Calling For Elk

Last weekend, John and I went up to Big Lake to do some elk calling with his good friend Jacob. It was really random...but a lot of fun all at the same time. I didn't realize that hunting was such a sport. There were all kinds of people up there. We took the dogs with us and they seemed to enjoy it. They were ruining the fishing though because they kept prancing through the water. The mountains up North are so nice this time of year. 2 quick funny stories...John and Jacob thought they had spotted an elk so they told me me sit down and hide with them...I plopped down on the forest floor and after a couple of minutes I started getting bit by ants.I looked down and I was sitting on an ant hill. Yikes! That was smooth. The other memorable event that happened to us was when John was trying to bugle at 11 pm. Our friend Jacob told him to stop because it didn't quite sound right...of course John didn't quit and from out of nowhere this huge owl came 3 feet from us. The owl thought that we were varmon. His claws were stretched out ready to pick something up. John grabbed his flashlight and shone it in the owls eyes and the owl took off. Well...a minute later, John tried to do the elk call again and lo and behold...the owl came back again. Don't worry...we still have our faces!!! it was a very fun weekend.

Warrior Robin

Warrior Robin!!!! Robin has just had a shot of cortisone put in her foot. OUCH!!! I can't even imagine. I spoke with her this morning and she said that she's in so much pain that she can't walk very well and my dad had to give her crutches. We love you Robin and hope that you feel better soon.

Golden Butterflies

Nick and Kristen got into town last night and we all went to the Cheesecake Factory. It was really good. Poor Kristen though...the waiter kept messing up her order...Then, Kristen and I woke up real early this morning to participate in a 5K run for Sickle Cell Anemia. We were excited to run in an actual race. We even had matching shirts. We called ourselves the "Golden Butterflies"...because of the gold butterflies on on shirts. (if you couldn't figure it out) We did great!!! We didn't come in last so that's a plus. :) And we got the T-shirts that we wanted. After the race, we went to a gas station to get granola bars and everyone in the gas station kept asking us about our race because we were still wearing our numbers. Kristen and I felt a little famous. Totally kidding!!! Then we went to the mall to do some good old fashioned shopping. And now we are finally at home relaxing. Where were John and Nick during this whole time? They went golfing all day. All four of us had a very fun day!

The Doggies

Here are some pictures of the dogs that we took this week. We live out by Saguaro Lake and the dogs absolutely love the water. They pounce around in it. It's really funny. Last night..it was a little chilly and it was a little rainy. John wasn't feeling very well so he went to bed early and I stayed up and did some things while the dogs were asleep inside. I went to put them out for the night and before I went to bed I looked out the sliding glass window and Charles was shivering. It was sooo sad. Needless to say...the dogs both slept inside last night.

Frogs

Our 2 dogs never bark at anything. It's actually kind of annoying ...because they aren't guard dog material. Cute and friendly...but no protection at all. Anyway, when the weather is stormy...we seem to have a frog problem. Frogs end up everywhere in our backyard. Frogs are the only thing that Charles and Dean will bark at. They cornered this poor frog into the big kennel and wouldn't let it get out.

Sickle Cell Research

On Saturday, Kristen, my mom, and I are doing a 5K race here in Phoenix. It's for sickle cell research. It's the only race going on this weekend up in Phoenix...so we are going to do it. I didn't really remember a whole lot about why sickle cells were an issue...so I decided to look up this morning.(since I'm obvioulsy so busy at work) And here's what I found:
Sickle Cell Anemia
Also called: Hemoglobin SS disease
Sickle cell anemia is a disease in which your body produces abnormally shaped red blood cells. The cells are shaped like a crescent or sickle. They don't last as long as normal, round red blood cells, which leads to anemia. The sickle cells also get stuck in blood vessels, blocking blood flow. This can cause pain and organ damage.
A genetic problem causes sickle cell anemia. People with the disease are born with two sickle cell genes, one from each parent. If you only have one sickle cell gene, it's called sickle cell trait. About 1 in 12 African Americans has sickle cell trait.

Update

I finally downloaded some of the pictures from this past week. I have some pictures of my Birthday celebrations. We had a blast in Tucson celebrating with my family. It was also my grandmothers Birthday. On Wednesday, (my actual Birthday) John bought me a cake and some roses and we had a low key night. It was way relaxing. Then on Friday, since I had the day off, I decided to get my hair done. I decided to go brown. What do you think? It's a change for sure. I'll keep it for a little bit and then go back blonde. :) There is a little boy in my Primary class who didn't want to go to class today because he didn't know his teacher. It was me...I've been teaching him all year long and he didn't recognize me. It was really funny. Tonight we had a lot of fun...We had 2 very good friends come over for dinner. Hilary and Dirk. It was good to see them. We had Italian chicken over rice, broccoli, cauliflower, and salad. It was good and now I'm going to go to bed. :)

Weekend Fun

We had a lot of fun this weekend with the Shipley family. John and I came down on Sunday and stayed until Monday. It was a lot of fun celebrating my grandma's birthday as well as my own with the family. We went and played a little golf and Scott was somehow able to teach me how to hit the golf ball left handed. John has been trying to teach me this for a while. Scott has been taking lessons from "Tiger Woods" though, so it's no wonder he could teach me. :)
